Frontal protection with a
NATO STANAG 2920 V50 of 450m/s (with ployamide insert).
The Security Devices Raptor armour was originally designed before there were any international standards. The design requirements were simplicity, low-cost and complete protection against the blast and environmental fragmentation from a PMN mine detonating at 30cm. A low-cost ballistic aramid was used and the simple design proved immediately popular with commercial demining customers.
The original design has been modified to provide greater protection of the neck and throat, and to reach the IMAS requirement of 450 m/s for vital areas.
A polyamide insert increases
the V50 around the chest and abdomen area to a figure of 450 metres/second and
also provides a blast-deflecting collar behind which the visor positions during
use. The apron remains soft and pliable and the weight is spread across the
shoulders.
The rear view shows the
large open area at the back of the Deminer allowing maximum cooling.
In the commonly used “kneeling
position” the apron reaches the ground and provides full-frontal protection.
